Ep. 123 | The Mysterious Death of Charles Morgan
In 1977, Tucson escrow agent Charles Morgan — a man secretly enmeshed with both organized crime figures and government investigators tracking Arizona's anonymous land-trust money-laundering schemes — was kidnapped and returned home terrified, warning his wife that speaking of it could get them killed. Weeks later, after a second disappearance, Morgan's body was found in the desert, dead from a gunshot to the back of the head, dressed in a bulletproof vest with a coded $2 bill pinned inside his underwear. Despite gunshot residue on the wrong hand, no fingerprints on the gun, and a trail of bizarre physical evidence, the case was officially ruled a suicide — a finding his family and independent journalists have disputed for decades, tying his death to a wider web of organized crime, intelligence operatives, and other suspicious deaths.
